A NEW BOOK about visibility, power, and culture online
FROM TRISTAN KATZ

WE ARE THE MESSAGE

Practices for Embodied Visibility and Cultural Responsibility in an Online World

Coming March 2027 from North Atlantic Books

We often talk about the internet as if it’s somewhere else—as if what happens online is less real than “real life.”

Yet online spaces are not separate from our bodies, relationships, politics, grief, work, movements, or sense of belonging. They are places where culture is made, repeated, challenged, and changed.

WE ARE THE MESSAGE is for people who care deeply about the world we’re in and want to think more critically about how they show up in it—online and off.

THIS BOOK IS FOR:

+ anyone holding tension between their values and their visibility or platform

+ anyone wondering how to share their work while the world is increasingly violent

+ anyone who wants their online presence to be rooted in relationship, care, accountability, and cultural responsibility

Inside WE ARE THE MESSAGE, we’ll explore:

VISIBILITY AS CULTURE-MAKING

How every post, caption, silence, share, offering, and message participates in shaping what becomes normal.

MARKETING BEYOND MANIPULATION

How marketing can move from transaction, urgency, and performance toward relationship, service, teaching, and care.

POWER, PRIVILEGE, + SOCIAL LOCATION

How identity shapes what we see, how we are seen, what access we have, and what responsibilities we carry.

DIGITAL URGENCY + THE ATTENTION ECONOMY

How online spaces train us to react quickly, perform publicly, and confuse visibility with trust.

ACCOUNTABILITY AS PRACTICE

How to return to your values, repair harm, stay teachable, and remain in relationship with impact.

EMBODIED VISIBILITY

How to listen to the body, honor capacity, resist urgency, and approach digital presence as a practice rather than a performance.

LIBERATORY VISIBILITY

How online spaces can become places of care, imagination, disruption, solidarity, and collective change.

This book does not offer certainty.

It offers questions, practices, frameworks, and invitations, asking us to slow down, tell the truth, and remember that how we show up matters.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

TRISTAN KATZ is a business and marketing strategist, equity-inclusion facilitator, writer, educator, and consultant whose work lives at the intersection of conscious marketing, digital visibility, LGBTQ+ inclusion, anti-oppression practice, and collective care.

For nearly two decades, Tristan has worked in marketing and communications, supporting values-driven entrepreneurs, educators, facilitators, yoga teachers, healers, and justice-oriented leaders in sharing their work with more clarity, integrity, and care.

Their work challenges the idea that marketing must be manipulative, extractive, or disconnected from the world around us. Instead, Tristan invites us to understand marketing as a practice of relationship-building, teaching, culture-making, and responsibility.
